Inspired in part by Charles Mingus’ legendary jazz workshop twenty-five years before, Tom Tilton formed the original 8-piece Collaboration ensemble, Featuring strong arrangements, great players and a big concert sound, the group has performed in various incarnations and only on special occasions since 1981.

Marking the Silver Anniversary of its founding, Tilton showcased his 2006 Elevation Collaboration on December 14th, at The Oriental Theater. Pairing traditional acoustic with electronic instrumentation, in his expanded rhythm section concept, provides a kind of ‘launch pad’ for soloists.
